Marc Opelt, previously spokesman of the OTTO Management Board, will be appointed chairman with effect from June 1, 2018. This is the first time that the four-member management board of the Otto Group's largest subsidiary has been given a chairman.

The 55-year-old Marc Opelt has made a major contribution to the success of the Otto Group in various roles during his long career. In 1990 Marc joined the former Otto Versand as a marketing assistant. Two years later, he was promoted to department head of catalogue marketing hardware.

In the following years, Marc played a major role in setting up the former Group company OTTO Office and became part of the management of Eddie Bauer in Munich in 2000. In 2002, he moved to Seattle as Divisional Vice President for the direct business of Eddie Bauer USA. Shortly afterwards, he additionally took over the responsibility for multi-channel marketing including the stores as Vice President and representative for the direct business on the Management Board. He returned to Germany in 2005 as Managing Director of the Baur Group for marketing, sales, advertising and e-commerce. In 2009 he was also appointed Chief Executive Officer.

Since August 1, 2012, Marc Opelt has been OTTO Board Member for Sales and since January 1, 2017 also Spokesman of the OTTO Management Board. With a turnover of 2.956 billion euros (+8.5 percent), the online retailer is the Otto Group's largest subsidiary and is on its way to becoming a platform. The number of active customers rose to 6.6 million (+8 percent) in the past fiscal year alone, of which more than 1.8 million were new customers.

"Marc has been a crucial driver for the development of OTTO for years. We would like to thank him expressly for his commitment and look forward very much to continuing our successful cooperation," emphasizes Dr Marcus Ackermann, member of the Otto Group Executive Board responsible for Multichannel Distance Selling, including the company OTTO.
